Getting some perspective

The power of meditation...

I'll freely admit I find meditation something of a challenge. People tend to see me as this oasis of calm, and while I am a really optimistic person, underneath it all I still get really quite anxious about things. On top of that, I have a pretty frenetic mind which is constantly buzzing around with worries, ideas and to-do lists.

I think we can all relate to that, can't we? In the modern world, there never seems to be a chance to just...stop. Just be for a moment, without a million different things demanding our attention. I've actually deleted the Twitter app on my phone this morning, after I realised how stressed it was making me having it there at my fingertips all of the time. Now I'll log in a couple of times a day to post my tweets, check my notifications and reply to any comments or retweets before being able to put it out of my mind for the next few hours. I'm sure I'll reinstate the app at some point, but right now it's just something which isn't good for my mind.

And we have to look after our mind! It's so important to give it a break every now and then, which I why I've taken up meditation again. I say again, because I've tried before, and always find myself slipping out of the habit. But this time I'm determined to keep it up! I've downloaded the HeadSpace app, which talks you through guided ten minute sessions. So far I've done nine days in a row, and I'm so proud of myself! My head feels clearer already, and I can look at things in a far calmer, less emotional way.

Life gets on top of us all sometimes. But taking some time out of our day to be present with ourselves can really help us to reconnect with the important things in life, and get the less important things in proportion. It's easy to forget what really matters amongst all life's complications, but we can always remember again!

Has meditation helped you in any way?

  1. I couldn't live without a bit of meditation in my life! I especially love some guided ones I''ve got on CD x

  2. I know what you mean 😊 I don't always find it easy but after 3 months now of practising every day I've never felt calmer or more centred xx

  3. naturally like your web site however you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth nevertheless I'll surely come again again. itunes sign in
